Royal Love Story From The Grave is an independent feature film written, produced and directed by Kevin Douglas Wright, and released through Wright Motion Picture Studios, LLC. It was his first film. He made it over roughly twelve years with no industry experience, no connections and no budget, and the full account of how that happened is on the film page.
This site is two things. The front page is a game you can play immediately in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create. The rest of the site is about the film the game came from, and where you can watch it, read it or listen to it.
The game is an arcade game in the tradition of Pac-Man and Tetris: one rule, learned in seconds, that gets harder until it beats you. You hold the sword from the film. Monster Valentina appears and you slay her. Gavino, Steffi, Dr. Ali Venge and the pink flowers appear too, and you must not touch any of them.
You begin with three pink flowers. Every mistake costs one. The flowers are both the thing you are protecting and the count of how many chances you have left, which means every failure leaves you with less to protect.
Everything you see and hear comes from the finished film. The faces are the actors. The voices are their recorded dialogue. The music is the original score. The bedroom, the shed, the lighthouse grounds and the sword are the real locations and the real prop. Nothing in the game was invented for it, and nothing was taken from anywhere else.
Valentina and the monster are the same person. That is the film's idea and it is the game's idea: the fight inside one person between doing the selfish thing and doing the right thing. It is why striking the wrong target does not punish the monster, it costs you Gavino, or Steffi, or the flowers. The damage always lands on what you were trying to protect.
The film, its score, its dialogue, its imagery and the game built from them are the property of Wright Motion Picture Studios, LLC. Every asset in the game is original to the production.
